You could also glue a plate to top to set the plant on.

Note: to make stand heavier, fill wine bottle with sand before gluing pieces together.

Make the stand as tall as desired by gluing more cut jars together.

Juice can Buddies

Can Buddies

This is a fun way to recycle small juice cans into cute party favors to hold small candies like M&M’s or jelly beans.

1. Wash and dry juice cans. remove tabs.

2. Place your thumbs at front of can 1” from top. Press in until top of can faces forward slightly. Don’t push too far or can won’t sit.

3. For Bear - spray can with Krylon Buckskin spray paint. let dry.

4. For front legs glue 1” tan pom pom at each side at point of bend on front. Glue two pom poms at lower edge of front of can. Glue one pom pom at back for tail.

5. Refer to picture and glue two 1/2” poms above opening to form muzzle.
Glue plastic nose onto muzzle and moving eyes above nose.

6. To make hat, Place a 8 oz. styrofoam cup upside down on a cookie sheet and bake in 325˚ oven for about 1 minute. Cup will shrink quickly so watch carefully and remove when desired size is reached. Paint hat red, leaving brim white. Glue on top of bears head.

7. Glue a white pom pom to top of hat. Glue a miniature package in bears hand and a bow under the chin,

8. For rabbit, Follow instructions # 1 and 2. Spray paint can white.
For legs and tail follow step 4 using white pom poms.

9. For face, follow step 5 using pink pom pom for nose.

10. For ears cut free form ears from white felt. Use pink marker or paint to paint an inner ear.

11. A small straw hat or flowers can be glued on the top of the head.. I also made a carrot from Polymer Clay to glue in one hand.

This is a fun project to do with kids, letting them decide on the decorations for the head or what to have the buddies hold.

Finished wreath

I’ve been saving all the free CD’s that come in the mail for a few years and have ended up with a big box.

As I was trying to clean out and get rid of stuff not being used I decided to make something out of the CD’s.  Now it is turning into a class project.

Spring is coming so I decided to make a wreath for my front door.  This ended up being a very inexpensive project.

Start by cutting a circle out of poster board to give stability to the CD’s. I used a salad plate for the center opening.  Trace around the plate and then trace another circle about 1 1/2” wider.  Cut out.

Now get out your glue gun.

Depending on how big your circle is, start gluing CD’s on the ring.  I had 7 on the first row.  Glue with the shiny unprinted side facing up.

Glue the second row on top of the first spacing between the first row.

If you want a larger wreath add a third row in the same way.

Now the fun part.

I purchased several types of flowers at the Dollar store.  Cut the flowers off so they are fairly flat on the bottom. Glue a flower in the center of each CD.  leaves can then be glued to fill bare spots.  I also was able to purchase a few sprigs of Baby Breath and these are pretty to be scattered among the larger flowers.

Glue a pretty stone or pearl in the center of the flowers.

I also found two crystal Humming birds and a plastic butterfly that I added to the wreath.

One of my students suggested spraying the wreath with glitter spray to make it glisten.  This  would be nice but I decided to leave it a more natural look.
